Introduction

In this unit, we’ll simultaneously study the topic of nonviolence and the graphic novel genre. After learning about nonviolence during the civil rights movement, you’ll research a separate social movement where nonviolence was used. Then, you’ll work to communicate a key moment of this movement in a graphic novel spread.

Nonviolence as a means of social change.
Specific examples of pragmatic nonviolence.
How to gather meaning from a graphic novel.
How to communicate meaning in a graphic novel spread.
